Columbia Crest 1996 Estate Series Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

Flavors of plum, cherry, cassis, chalky earth, smoke and bell pepper. Still tight and chewy, with suggestions that the fruit from this difficult vintage didn't attain full ripeness. A good effort from a subpar year, marked by a hint of brett on the finish. Paul Gregutt
