The blend includes 14% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, and it has a sleek and deep streak of cassis and berry fruit. The AVA is wind-blown and the reds develop powerful tannins; the trick is to keep them under control. Here they contribute earth and black olive flavors, and a very dry astringency, but all is in excellent balance.
