Columbia Winery 2018 Red Willow Syrah (Yakima Valley)

Complete with a throwback to the original label, this is a 30th anniversary bottle of the first Syrah ever made in the state from this producer and site. One sniff, and it is immediately identifiable as Red Willow, with aromas full of char, bacon fat, berry and herb, along with a medicinal note. Full-bodied flavors follow that hang on the finish. A cough-syrup note from the smoke in this vintage provides some distraction. It's a shame, as the fruit behind it is impressive. Sean P. Sullivan
