Concannon 2007 Reserve Syrah (Livermore Valley)

A tough, gritty wine, marked by strongly astringent tannins. Underneath are fine blackberry, cherry, currant, mineral, floral and pepper flavors with hints of chocolate and cassis. But the mouthfeel is so tannic it detracts from the pleasure, nor does the wine seem ageable.
