Judged against other modern, very ripe 2009 Rioja wines, this Graciano is austere. Minerally, gritty black-fruit aromas give way to a juicy, hard-driving, high-acid palate, with salty, roasted black-fruit flavors. A shearing finish with saline notes and zesty acidity is what you get from this single-vineyard varietal wine. Michael Schachner
