This is the star wine from Cortes de Cima, owned by Dane Hans Jorgenson and his California wife Carrie. It boasts aromas of dark, mature tarry fruits on the nose and a palate of big, sweet fruit, with layers of wood and sweet black-currant jelly, balanced with ripe but firm tannins that give a great sense of structure and purpose. The fruit (which includes Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend) makes it drinkable now, but it will age well. —R.V.
