Cottonwood Canyon 2008 Syroir Red (Santa Maria Valley)

Alpine strawberry, grape Jolly Rancher, lilac and violet aromas all come to the fore in this blend of 68% Syrah and 32% Pinot Noir, which barely shows its decade of age yet. The palate starts very dry and then releases tangy red fruits, rose hips and baking spice, with a lift of mint toward the finish. Matt Kettmann
