Cougar Ridge 1999 Chardonnay (Central Coast)

Smells super-oaky, with charcoal and smoke aromas dominating the underlying fruit. Those flavors are pretty thin, suggesting peaches and apples. Extremely dry and tart, with hefty acids, but it's clean and refreshing. —S.H.
