Crifo 2020 Squarcione Appassimento Nero di Troia (Puglia)
Using the “appassimento” process of allowing grapes to dry on the vines and develop rich, macerated fruit flavors and balancing herbal notes, the Crifo Squarcione is nonetheless a surprisingly buoyant expression of Nero di Troia vinified in this fashion. The brambles and wild berries on the nose enjoy a counterpoint of medicinal roots and engine oil on the palate, with a lively acid component and firm enough tannins to lend a welcome verve to the plush fruit.
