Crous Saint Martin 2018 Les Volutes Red (Vacqueyras)

Bold whiffs of crushed peppercorn, anise and allspice lend a sultry tone to velvety black cherry and cassis flavors here. A rich, glossy blend of 70% Grenache, 15% syrah and 15% Cinsault, it's packed with jammy black fig and rasberry notes but also a savory, slightly animal inflections of fur and charcuterie too. Supple in tannins, it's at peak now–2028. Anna Lee C. Iijima
