D'Arenberg 2017 The Noble Wrinkled Riesling (Adelaide Hills)

Editors' Choice

What a joyful wine, and it's a total bargain to boot. Made from botrytis-affected Riesling grapes and the color of burnt sugar, this sweetie is complex and evocative. It smells like a walk in the woods in autumn, leaves crunch under foot, mushrooms sprout on damp logs, and, in the distance, a whiff of smoke from a campfire where nuts are roasting. Then there's the sweeter notes: toffee, candied orange and fig. Riesling's natural acidity cuts through the sweetness on the palate, where the citrus shows more prominently. Drink this decadent drop over the holidays with a dried fruit and nuts dessert. Christina Pickard
