D'Arenberg 2018 The Stump Jump Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

Best Buy

Although still fairly young, this feels like it's a bit older than it is. There's some volatile acidity on the nose which, while a little nail polish-y, adds a lift to the shriveling fruit. There's mint and a peppery, earthy spice here, too. Tannins are chalky, muscular and austere. They feel extra broody against the crunchy acidity. But the freshness is welcome amidst the power, and the oak is nicely tucked. Christina Pickard
