Davey Family 2015 D Block Reserve Shiraz (McLaren Vale)

Editors' Choice

With five years of bottle age at the time of tasting, this McLaren Vale Shiraz has become a harmonious and characterful wine, showing a sense of place and restraint. The nose is a combo of cherries, purple beets, cedar, mint and violets, backed by a slightly charred oak note. A flash of minerals is there, too. In the mouth, a lovely savory streak runs alongside juicy, silky red fruit, right to the finish. Tannins are firm but fine, adding to a complex texture that feels chalky and silky all at once. Drink now with a hearty meal and until 2035, at least. Christina Pickard
