David Franz 2000 Benjamin's Promise Shiraz (Barossa)

Nicely complex, this offering combines cherry fruit with plenty of leathery, smoky and herbal nuances. In fact, one might argue there's a touch too much leather, as it seems to dull the fruit slightly, smoothing out any rough edges, but also lessening the fruit's bite. The wine is medium-bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel that finishes on a leathery note. Joe Czerwinski
