DFJ Vinhos 2013 Paxis Red (Lisboa)

#5 Top 100 Best Buy 2016
Return to List

This dark, structured wine, with its balanced blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, is firm with tannins and dense berry fruits. Full in the mouth, it is a concentrated wine that brings out a strongly chalky texture. The wine is still moving towards a rich future. Drink from 2017. Roger Voss

The wine is not unacceptable but it is a minimum wine from my perspective. I hope my tasting experience is from an exception in bottling rather than a giant diversity in opinion. I have not compared my opinions of a wine with Mr. Voss before, but for the bottle I tasted, we are miles apart. The wine is fruity with lots of red berries but the body of the wine is thin in the middle. An excessive sweetness hits in the middle and throws the balance out the window with a surprisingly sharp and short acidity and a light tannin that is short and abrupt.
