92pointsDion 2017 Old Vines Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

Though not quite as concentrated as the previous vintage, these rare old vines—all Pommard clone, own-rooted, and planted in 1976—offer extra texture and complexity when the wine is properly aerated. There's a whiff of pleasant funk, soft cherry fruit with herbal accents, and the wine was given 14 months in half new French oak barrels, lending a slightly liquorous bourbon scent to the finish. Paul Gregutt
