Dog Point 2017 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

Very reductive to start, it takes a fair bit of swirling in the glass before the sweat and barnyard notes start to fade and make way for cherry preserves, cocktail bitters, cedar, pine needles and vanillin oak aromas. The palate is medium, with slightly sour acidity and chunky, granular, oak-derived tannins. There's plenty of cherry fruit and foresty flavors, too, but it's rather heavy-handed overall.
