Domaine de la Charité 2016 Altitude 150 Grenache-Mourvèdre (Côtes du Rhône Villages Signargues)

Mourvèdre's angularity and peppery tinge contrast with Grenache's fleshy, jammy grandiosity in this powerful 70/30 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre. Black cherry and blackberry flavors are profoundly ripe but veiled by layers of smoke, leather and charred earth. Soft in tannin and finishing on a chalky, mocha kiss, it's a wine that should improve and meld through 2030. Anna Lee C. Iijima
