This is a varietal Grenache sourced almost entirely from the sandy soils of the northern Pignan region of the appellation. The palate is profoundly ripe, heaving with flavors of fig preserves, strawberries and honey-spice cake, but traces of tea leaf, earth and leather lend elegance, too. A plush, soft-footed wine layered in fine, feathery tannins, it drinks easily in youth but should maintain through 2030. Anna Lee C. Iijima
