Domaine Marcel Deiss 2002 Mambourg Grand Cru White (Alsace)

A blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Blanc, this wine poses omething of a challenge to the reviewer. The aromas are slightly oxidative, the alcohol levels elevated and yet the wine lacks lushness to balance it's large frame. Instead, hard, crystalline flavors power the palate, leaving the impression of a multifaceted rock. Seems to have stuff worthy of more introspection and intellectual curiosity than our blind-tasting format allows; not a hedonistic bomb by any measure. Joe Czerwinski
