Domaine Saint Gayan 2004 Red (Côtes du Rhône)

Best Buy

Jean Pierre and Martine Meffre are vignerons in Gigondas who trace their domaine's roots back to 1709, but make this great bargain from 50-year-old vines just outside the Gigondas appellation. The 2004 Saint- Gayan boasts scents of anise, black cherry and flowers on the nose, then follows that up with a lushly textured palate. Flavors of black cherries and spice add some meatier notes, then finish long and softly tannic. Drink now–2012. Joe Czerwinski
