A Claret (Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec) blend topping out at more than 16% alcohol and being released seven years after the vintage is unusual, to say the least. It's oaky, tannic, blocky and generic, but the bottle age has tempered the tannins a bit and somewhat taken the edge off the alcohol. Paul Gregutt
