Emilio Moro 1998 Malleolus (Ribera del Duero)

Starts off very cedary, showing lots of toast and vanilla—also a hint of grilled meats. Explodes on the palate with bright red cherries, powering through chocolate notes onto the sweetly tannic finish. This is the first vintage for Moro's luxury cuvée aged in French oak; barrel samples of the 1999 and 2000 vintages were even more impressive. Joe Czerwinski
