Ripe flavors of roasted black plums and blueberry preserves abound in this spicy, clove- and violet-scented red. Reflecting the hot, dry vintage, it's a massive, richly extracted Syrah but grounded in smoky, earthen savoriness. A touch warming and lingering on ripe, furry tannins, the wine is approachable young but should drink well through 2030 at least. Anna Lee C. Iijima
