Escarpment 2019 Gris Pinot Gris (Martinborough)

This estate is more known for its Pinot Noir, but it has produced a lovely, rich, food-friendly Pinot Gris as well. There's a waxy, floral perfume to start, reminiscent of peach, pear, ginger and orchard blossoms. It's still young, with lifted acidity, a beeswax texture and juicy stone fruit. There's length and a white spice underbelly. For more honeyed complexity, cellar for a few years until 2027. Christina Pickard
