Besides big-time blackberry jam on the nose, there are also notes of cedar, lavender-scented baby powder and dark chocolate. The tannins are still harsh, with the astringency of a Scottish breakfast tea. Dark-plum, fig and vanilla flavors join even more dark chocolate on the palate. If the wine's tannins ever fully integrate, this will definitely be worth seeking out. Michael Alberty
