On its own, the base beer is excellent, with a soft roast that is more coffee heavy than chocolate. Small bits of citrus and herbal hops chime in. It is the addition of fir tips that brings this beer to the next level. A woodsy earthiness wraps around the whole beer with a light pine touch. It's a calming pour, one that upon the first sip relaxes the brain and seeks to make time move a little more slowly in an appreciative manner. Dark brown in color, with garnet highlights and a thick mocha head, this is a porter best consumed as fresh to bottling as possible for the brightest flavors. John Holl
