Fern Ridge 2019 Pinot Gris (Hawke's Bay)

Once again, where this brand excels in its Sauvignon Blanc it stumbles with its Pinot Gris. There's a lot of winemaking going on here to lackluster results. There's seemingly a lot of sulfur on the nose and palate here, and the fruit feels a little synthetic, offering baked peach and pear with some floral notes. The palate is rich and made in an off-dry style, and while the acidity is fairly bright and lifted, there's a bitter note at the finish. Christina Pickard
