The Optu blend is based on Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) but includes a fair amount of Merlot (36%) and a bit of Cab Franc and Malbec. It speaks to the blending prowess of winemaker Charlie Hoppes that this is one of the stars of a portfolio that also features excellent single-vineyard Merlots and Cabernets, unblended. The Optu brings structure and texture to its black currant and black cherry fruit, along with veins of earth and lead pencil running through slightly grainy tannins.
