Firestone 2001 Syrah (Santa Ynez Valley)

A dark, intense Syrah that stains the sides of the glass, and smells and tastes as rich as it looks. Bursts of white pepper shoot out, with underlying notes of blackberry and plum, smoky oak, sautéed mushrooms, espresso and herbs. It's dry, but complex and assertive.
