Forest Hill 2019 Highbury Fields Shiraz (Great Southern)

This affordable bottling, from the cool Great Southern region in Western Australia, is plush and polished, with a nose of luscious red and black berry fruit, licorice, dried flower and a good lick of vanillin oak. The palate is sewn together tightly with chiseled, powdery tannins but the fruit is juicy. Secondary spice and brambly notes add complexity. Despite its density, the wine is still medium weight, with the capacity to age until 2028 or so. Christina Pickard
