François Villard 2017 Mairlant (Saint-Joseph)

Zesty blackberry and cherry flavors are pristine in this medium-bodied Syrah fermented with 55% whole clusters. Aged 18 months in oak, it's a deeply black-fruited sip accented by fresh acidity and shades of green herb, pepper and olive. Persistent but fine-grained tannins are welcoming while young, but this should drink well through 2030. Anna Lee C. Iijima
