Frankland Estate 2015 Olmo's Reward Red (Frankland River)

Editors' Choice

Cab Franc doesn't get as much air time in the Great Southern as it probably should. This one, which includes a little Malbec, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot all from FE's renowned Isolation Ridge vineyard, manages both daintiness and power. The nose bounces with raspberry and red currants, underpinned by mushroom, meat, dried herbs and pepper notes, and smudged with stony minerality. The power on the palate comes as a surprise鈥攖he spicy sandpaper-like tannins cinching the juicy fruit, herbs and spices. Drink this complex and age worthy wine now through 2029. Christina Pickard
