Frescobaldi 1999 Pomino Rosso Sangiovese (Pomino)

Here's a Tuscan red that's racy and lean, a pure shot of cherry and cranberry fruit with little else mucking it up. The nose has a hint of tree bark and cola in addition to expressive red fruit, while the palate is all zippy cherries, vanilla and pepper. Almost certainly a winner with food due to its streamlined body, which features racy acids. —M.S. Michael Schachner
