Gerhard Pittnauer 2017 Mashpitt White (Burgenland)

Editors' Choice

Slightly cloudy but with an immensely aromatic nose, this suffuses with orange blossom, white pepper, bruised apple peel and jasmine. The palate rings with these aromatics while remaining utterly slender, utterly poised, utterly fresh. This clearly is skin-fermented and thus brings a deliciously bitter phenolic edge. Elderflower hovers. The aromatic purity and floral citrus poise are astonishing. Lovely. Anne Krebiehl MW
