Giesen 2014 The August 1888 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

This barrel-fermented wine is less overtly rich than you'd expect given the treatment, although it still puts texture front and center. Notes of citrus, tropical fruit, bell pepper, flint, salt and toast carry the nose. The mouthfeel is slick in a lemon pith flavor, with lean acidity lending support and a savory, toasty, vanillin character on the finish. Drink now–2027. Christina Pickard
