Giesen 2019 Pinot Noir (Marlborough)

This takes time to open. The oak is on the oatmeal and cola side but there's also plenty of strawberry and raspberry fruit, spice and a savory meat character. The palate is medium weight with a grip of somewhat woody, astringent tannins. The fruit is there but feels muffled from all the winemaking. Christina Pickard
