From heavy soils at high elevation in New South Wales, this wine blends six varieties, including Sangiovese, Barbera, Pinot and Tempranillo. There's a bit of funk on the nose at first but it quickly blows away to reveal lovely brambly berry fruit, plum, violet, earthy spice and whispers of iodine and warm stone. The palate is equally lovely. There's power but restraint. Textural, with fine tannins, the wine gives the fruit and place room to shine. Christina Pickard
