Goat'it 2020 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

A lot of winemaking shows here and it detracts rather than adds. The nose conveys an odd combo of funky pungency and confected fruit (think peach and pineapple candy) followed by more appealing jasmine notes. In the mouth, what feels like a touch of residual sugar attempts to balance out underripe acidity. The wine is heavy and unharmonious, with a burn of sulfur at the finish. Christina Pickard
