This version of Grand Marnier uses rare Cognac reserves aged up to 50 years. Here, the flavor and scent are closer to Cognac than orange liqueur. Look for a rich topaz color, with heady dried fruit notes as well as a clear hit of juicy orange fruit. It's mellow, mouthwatering, and it seems a shame to mix it, though it's been spotted at some restaurants in “ultrapremium margaritas.” Kara Newman

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
