92pointsGrangehurst 2009 Cape Winemakers Guild Cape Reserve Red (Stellenbosch)

Winemaker: Jeremy Walker. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Pinotage, 16% Shiraz and 2% Mourvèdre that was aged in French oak for 32 months, this is a rich, structured and complex wine. Aromas of green pepper, menthol, black currant and blackberry lead the bouquet, with additional accents of balsamic-drizzled fig and cigar ash. The palate boasts a crushed-velvet texture, with ample acidity and concentrated, ripe black-fruit flavors. Hints of leather, cigar box, cocoa powder and licorice root remain through the long finish. Drink now–2018. Lauren Buzzeo
