Hans Family Estate 2014 Grüner Veltliner (Marlborough)

A Grüner Veltliner like no other, this complex, dandelion-hued charmer is fermented on native yeast and spends time in 500 liter puncheons with extended time on lees plus some bottle age. The nose is intensely perfumed, like nectar: honey just pulled from the comb, fresh ginger, honeysuckle, damp hay and spice. The palate is rich and viscous, layered and mouthfilling but with a line of acidity. There's a raw beauty here that's both charming and utterly unique. Christina Pickard
