Heartland 2015 Shiraz (Langhorne Creek)

This is an oaky, extracted wine dripping in ripe fruit aromas of blackberries and raspberries, along with licorice, menthol, dark chocolate and cola notes. The palate is lacquered in oak, and like layers of makeup, it's not unattractive, but it feels flashy and fake and isn't helped by the ripe fruit, which veers on the flabby side. Christina Pickard
