Rich aromas of blackberries, licorice and toasted oak start it off, followed by cherry and plum flavors. This particular wine lacks that thick, oozing style common to Australian Shiraz; instead, it's fairly racy and agile, with lively acidity. As a result, it's probably best with food. —M.S.
