Graphite, a slight leafy lift, fresh, aromatic, red plum and a hint of cinnamon make for a promising nose that suggests structure and concentration. The palate comes in with welcome, crisp freshness that highlights the elegance and finesse of the tannins. This is a big wine, but it comes with tone and poise. Hints of tar and chocolate appear amid the dark plum and cherry fruit toward the finish. Lovely and getting ready now, but it will continue evolving. Drink by 2035. Anne Krebiehl MW

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
