Hirsch Selection 21-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye

The peculiar bouquet emits concentrated baked tar odors with vague nut- and carnival candy-like aromas. The palate entry offers big, oily textured flavors of oak resin, sap and maple; the midpalate is chocolaty in its bittersweetness. Finishes on a semisweet maple note. A strange, idiosyncratic creature that's oddly compelling, even luscious. P.P.
