Hopes End 2017 Red (South Australia)

Somewhat closed and synthetic-feeling at first, this wine does open some, but it takes a lot of swirling in the glass. It offers subtle red and black fruit, spicy oak, pencil lead and menthol aromas. The palate is more generous, with a burst of juicy ripe fruit and muscular tannins, but overall this lacks the character of the varietals and place and falls on the flat and oaky side.
