Hubba 2018 Mutha Chardonnay (Central Coast)

This is a unique, intentionally cloudy take on Chardonnay, combining fruit from the historic Massa Estate in Carmel Valley and almost-as-old Bien Nacido in Santa Maria Valley. The result walks through the range of aromas and flavors possible in the grape, from peach, marshmallow, rainy cement and lemon butter on the nose to acid-driven, chalk-coated touches of key lime and creamy oak on the palate. It's a bit untethered, but tastes alive. Matt Kettmann
