This is a ripe, chocolaty Shiraz that oozes plum cherry and blackberry fruit along a spine of dense mocha oak and earthy, peppery spices. The palate veers into jam territory, and the wood sits heavily over the top, a little bitter at the finish. Tannins are muscular and raspy, drying out the mouth. A good lick of acidity brings some much needed freshness. Christina Pickard

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
