Hugh Hamilton 2017 The Villain Cabernet Sauvignon (McLaren Vale)

This is a ripe, somewhat soapy, blockbuster of a wine that leads with aromas of high-toned red fruit, mealy oak, dried herbs and an appealing vanilla and licorice sweetness. In the mouth, raspy, drying tannins run over the top of plush fruit and somewhat clunky oak. Overall this feels a bit forced and overmade. Christina Pickard
